Michigan Tech Week 2026: A Recap

Michigan Tech Week (MTW) 2026 was something special. Now in its fourth year, it’s the state’s premier convening for tech and high-growth entrepreneurship.
Presented by Michigan Founders Fund and hosted at Michigan Central in Detroit, MTW26 brought together more than 1,200 founders, investors, corporate innovators, students, and community leaders from across Michigan and beyond – all under one roof for three days of programming, connection, and momentum.
Highlights from MTW 2026
Founder-Focused Programming
True to its founder-first roots, MTW26 packed the schedule with sessions designed to meet founders where they are, share actionable learnings, and inspire growth.
Highlights included a keynote conversation with Dr. Zhen Xu, Michigan’s first female-founded unicorn, a crowd-favorite “Making It in Michigan” session exploring why founders chose to build and scale here, a corporate innovation track that focused on working models of startup/corporate partnerships in place likes Grand Rapids, Traverse City, and Michigan Central, and sessions focused on access to capital, statewide innovation policy, and much more.

Lightning Rounds: Corporate <> Startup Matchmaking
One of MTW’s most popular initiatives, Lightning Rounds was new for 2026 and featured curated 15-minute, one-on-one meetings between startups and corporate innovation teams. Held on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 20, the sessions gave founders a direct line to corporate innovation leaders from some of the world’s leading companies, scouting for pilots, partnerships, and investment opportunities.
This year, 245 startups and 59 corporate partners participated, spanning industries from mobility and manufacturing to clean tech, health, and beyond.

MFF Venture Together Competition
The MFF $100k Venture Together Competition is unlike your typical pitch event.
Rather than a traditional startup pitch, Venture Together challenged teams of founders from different companies to pitch how they would collaborate, support one another, and create impact for people, place, and planet – together. The $100,000 prize (split equally among team members as non-dilutive grants, including $20,000 in startup legal services from Varnum) rewarded the kind of founder-to-founder relationships that MFF has always championed.
This year’s winning team – the Blue Water Clean Power coalition – took home the grand prize. Congratulations to all the teams who made it to the finals stage!

Women’s Innovation Lounge
The Women’s Innovation Lounge brought together women founders, investors, and innovators bright and early on May 21 for a light breakfast, mimosas, and guided conversations.
Hosted by Karissma Yve, founder of Gildform, and Ana Timoficiuc, founder of MinaRosa Technologies, attendees enjoyed a positive, supportive environment and insights from startup veterans and today’s inspiring female founders.

The Innovation Alliance Announcement
MTW26 served as the backdrop for a significant statewide announcement: the launch of the Innovation Alliance.
Announced on May 21, the Innovation Alliance is a first-of-its-kind statewide effort to connect investors, research universities, corporations, founders, and startups so more companies can start, scale, and stay in Michigan. The Alliance will focus on aligning strategy, strengthening capital networks, supporting commercialization, and improving how Michigan shows up nationally as a destination for innovation and investment.
The effort builds on a coalition of more than 100 organizations and sets an ambitious goal: positioning Michigan as a Top 10 U.S. innovation economy.

Networking & Meetup Opportunities
MTW has always been as much about who you meet as what you hear – and 2026 was no exception. Attendees kicked off the week at the Opening Reception and then evening happy hours continued throughout the event for people to make connections over drinks, appetizers, and music.
New this year, the Networking Café provided a structured but casual space to set up face-to-face intros using the MTW conference app. Lunchtime meetups based on region and industry were also a popular way for attendees to connect with peers throughout the busy conference.

Until Next Time
Michigan Tech Week exists because of the people who showed up – the founders building in the face of uncertainty, the investors betting on Michigan, the students exploring what’s possible, and the community members who believe this state is worth investing in.
MTW26 reminded us that connection is infrastructure. The conversations that happened in hallways and over coffee will turn into partnerships, companies, and careers. That’s the point.
We’ll see you next time. In the meantime, continue to follow along with Michigan Founders Fund.
