Michigan Founders Fund (MFF) and global accelerator network gener8tor have officially launched the inaugural Michigan Founders Fund Pre-Accelerator (MFFPA) program. This innovative, seven-week, no-equity initiative is a game-changer for underrepresented early-stage founders in Southeast Michigan, providing them with concierge coaching, access to an extensive mentor and investor network, and up to $15,000 in non-dilutive grant funding. Applications for the Winter 2025 cohort are open until January 12, 2025.
The Vision Behind MFFPA
The MFFPA program is crafted to foster an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem in Detroit and Southeast Michigan. By targeting underrepresented founders, the program ensures equitable access to resources, mentorship, and funding, paving the way for these entrepreneurs to succeed in future equity-based accelerator programs and secure investment opportunities.
Rishi Moudgil, Executive Director of Michigan Founders Fund, highlights the program’s mission: “We are building opportunities for founders from all backgrounds to succeed in advancing to the next stage of their startup in Michigan. This partnership with gener8tor includes providing deliberate support and capital that will create more opportunities for underrepresented founders to succeed.”

Meet the Leadership
Brittni Abiolu, a Metro Detroit native, has been appointed as the Program Manager for MFFPA. With extensive experience in entrepreneurial support and scaling startups, Abiolu is well-positioned to guide the inaugural cohort. Her passion for fostering business growth and her deep understanding of Detroit’s entrepreneurial ecosystem make her an ideal leader for the program.
“After years of advising entrepreneurs on business development and working to scale my own businesses, I decided to apply what I’ve learned and pay it forward by helping other entrepreneurs in and around Detroit,” said Abiolu. “I’m excited that I’ve been selected to lead this program and help founders in Detroit scale their startups, while supporting the growth of the city’s economy and entrepreneurial ecosystem.”
Abiolu’s responsibilities include recruiting startups, mentors, and investors while providing hands-on guidance through coaching sessions and group discussions.
Eligibility Criteria
The program is open to startups that meet the following criteria:
- Location: Based in Southeast Michigan.
- Founder Demographics: Led by underrepresented founders, with an emphasis on creating equitable opportunities.
- Stage of Development: Early-stage companies with a minimum viable product, yet to participate in traditional accelerator programs.
- Commitment: Founders must dedicate 5-7 hours per week to programming, excluding independent work.
Why MFFPA Stands Out
The MFFPA program distinguishes itself from other accelerators by prioritising underrepresented founders and offering a no-equity structure. This approach ensures that startups retain full ownership of their businesses while benefiting from world-class resources and mentorship.
Moreover, the program’s partnership with gener8tor provides participants with access to:
- Gener8tor’s Proven Framework: A globally recognised accelerator network that has supported startups across 22 states and two countries.
- gBETA Program Alumni Network: gBETA graduates have collectively raised over $776 million in capital and created more than 4,700 jobs.
- Global Recognition: Gener8tor has received accolades such as being named one of Fast Company’s Best Workplaces for Innovators.
